Original badge carries message. WELCOME HOME 17th AIRBORNE DIVISION........... these were produced before the end of the war in preparation for homecoming of the troops from Europe. In the meantime at end of the war all the remaining Airborne troopers who were still in Europe were transferred over to the 82nd Airborne Division as the other 2 were de-activated.Only the 82nd came back as a Division and these badges were not required.....
